September 7, 2012 - Children

Sorry everyone!  I had to take last night off.  After two straight days of listening to the lies spewing forth from my television in the form of the DNC, I just couldn't take it anymore!  Instead, I watched mindless TV with my other half and ate pizza.  It was a good night.  We all live busy lives, and it is good to remember to take time for ourselves and our loved ones when we can.  The rest of the world will still be there in an hour!

That said...I am digressing from politics for the night!  We will return to our regularly scheduled programming tomorrow!

I was reading a great article today.  Members of a church in a small (population of 700!) town in Texas adopted 76 foster children.  The minister and his wife were the inspiration to the other members of this church when they took in four foster children, with 20 other families following suit.

With all the talk about extending fertility and ways to get pregnant such as in-vitro fertilization, people forget that there are thousands of children that need homes.  I've heard all the rationalizations from people such as "I want to carry my baby" or "I want my baby to look like me" and yada yada yada.  Instead of spending tens of thousands of dollars on fertility treatments, more people need to be willing to open their hearts and their homes to the children that have already been born and need homes.

I was long ago informed by my doctor that there is a 95% chance that I will only be able to get pregnant with medical assistance, such as with in-vitro fertilization.  At this point in my life, I do not have a burning desire to have children.  I don't hear my biological clock ticking.  I am quite content with my life as is.  My other half has kids from a previous relationship and I have plenty of great nieces and nephews for when I do want to spend time with kids.  However, if and when I ever do want to have children, I have no intention of spending tens of thousands of dollars that can be better spent on fertilization treatments or in-vitro.

I woman I used to work with was told she couldn't get pregnant.  Instead of trying alternate methods of conception, her and her husband decided to adopt.  They were selected by a young woman that was pregnant, but that felt she could not raise her child the way she wished.  They took custody of the baby as soon as she was born.  For the first six months they were considered foster parents, then after that time they were able to officially adopt their little girl.  She found out the day the adoption was finalized that she was pregnant.  She has gone on to have three adorable little girls besides the adorable little girl they adopted.  For anyone that doesn't know them, they would never know that one of the children was adopted as they all look so much alike.  Adorable little blond haired blue eyed girls.

While this was a newborn adoption, there are also many many older children that need homes too.  Many of these children have been through a lifetime of tragedy in their short lives, which is why they are in the system.  As a society and as individuals, we need to be willing to open our hearts and our homes to these children.

<< Matthew 25 >>
New American Standard Bible

35‘For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; 36naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’ 37“Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink? 38‘And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? 39‘When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’40“The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the leastof them, you did it to Me.’
